Osteoarthritis is the name given to the normal degenerative process of joints affecting almost everyone as they get older. It is is possible to have osteoarthritis in younger people but it is less common. . Common symptoms include pain and mobility issues. There are a number of factors which can increase the risk of developing arthritis and these include age, gender,  obesity, previous joint injury and heredity. 

There are links with previous surgeries and the development of OA. Hard repetitive activity over a long period of time can also increase joint loads and forces and increase the likelihood of developing OA.

Early signs include joint stiffness, which can often be worse in the morning or at the end of the day. Creaking or cracking can often be an indicator of joint issues which can lead to OA. Joints may appear swollen. This pain can worsen over time. 

Common joints affected are hips,knees and wrists. Osteoarthritis is generally diagnosed using X ray imaging.
